As a follow up to my last week’s article, I am now going to focus on the reasons why one should work with one’s heart.
Leaders who think that followers connect because you are in charge are wrong. It’s your job as a Leader, to connect with people. Leaders touch a heart before they ask for a hand. You can’t move people to action unless you first move them with emotion. The heart comes before the head.
People don’t care to follow until they know you care. The heart comes first. The stronger the relationship and connection between individuals, the more likely the follower will want to help the leader.
In order to connect, you first have to connect with yourself. You must know who you are and have confidence in yourself if you desire to connect with others.
Communicate with openness and sincerity. People can smell a phony a mile away.
You have to be authentic. You have to know your audience, know their names, their families and their dreams.
You have to practice what you preach, you have to be credible. You have to speak their language, go where they are.
You have to focus on them and not yourself. And you have to believe in them.
You have to help others get where they want to get to, then they are going to be more willing to help you get where you want to go.
“It’s one thing to communicate to people because you believe you have something of value to say. It’s another to communicate with people because you believe they have value.” ~ John Maxwell
