I believe we are here to grow, to expand—to learn and experience and understand. Growth and discovery are the purpose of life. But, we tend to get in our own way.

Our experiences, our cultures, and even our families can create fears and limitations that hold us back. They don’t do this intentionally. It’s just that we are all doing the best we can in this beautiful, messy, complicated world.

We all have negative baggage from our past-abuse from family members, name-calling from school friends, and destructive self-talk, just to name a few. And while these negative events occurred in our childhood, many adults allow their past baggage to dictate their present and guide their future.

For example, perhaps when you were in elementary school a group of classroom bullies constantly called you “a dummy.” Their words hurt you and got ingrained in your mind. Now that you are an adult and rarely, if ever, think back to your elementary school days, you still believe you are too dumb to handle many situations. As a result, you don’t try as hard as you could at work, and your results suffer.

Over the years we create a set of beliefs in our mind that we hold them to be true. Some are indeed helpful and true, while others completely set us back. It’s these latter, false beliefs that quietly hinder our potential and hold us back from the life we are capable of living.

Here are the five such false beliefs that you have identified in answering the Quiz:

1. Life owes me something.

2. The Universe is out to get me.

3. I am stuck in my current life situation.

4. It’s too late to start anything.

5. Others will think what I am doing is foolish.

Here are some additional insights that might help you… based on what I recognized from your answers. There are usually three mistakes we often make in our endeavors to grow, create, or experience something new:

Mistake #1: Not Taking Your Instincts Seriously

Mistake #2: Not Creating Space for Growth

Mistake #3: Labeling Your Efforts

If you are struggling with these, hold on to one truth: Each and every person was born pure, whole, and open to growth and learning.

The struggle doesn’t come from who you are inherently, but rather the messages you have heard about who you are.

I leave you with these few questions:

  • What messages have you heard?
  • What are your beliefs about yourself and what you can do?
  • What things are holding you back from venturing into life?

Now, that you know why and how the negative thoughts and beliefs are playing havoc in your life, here are some actions that you can take to turn the situation around.

No matter what your past burdens are, you need to be able to walk away from them instead of letting them control your present. To help you do so, consider these strategies.

1. Do a life assessment.

2. Decide to be a Conqueror.

3. Don’t complain

4. Learn new Habits.

5. Choose to help others.

Final Thoughts… It’s time to make a change to getting rid of your false and self-limiting beliefs. When you were younger you didn’t believe these untruths, but as you have grown up they have been given more power simply because you have given them more attention. By doing so, you have slowly become your own worst enemy.

Take back control of your life now.

You can do that by shattering those limiting beliefs and choosing to take positive action today.

Your Bright Future Awaits

Changing your life can be overwhelming, but you can do it. You can overcome your past and create a bright future. No matter what happened to you in the past-whether it was abuse from a loved one or schoolyard bullying-remember that the past is the past and has no correlation to your present or future. You are in control of your destiny and can take the appropriate action steps to create the best future possible. So, be a conqueror, stop complaining, learn some new habits, and help others along the way. Keep enduring and don’t give up. You will reach the life you want.

Congratulations… on reaching this far with your Quiz Report.

Your happiness is in your hands.

Take Control of your Life

Are you trying desperately to keep one thing or other from crashing and burning? Are you doing well just to make sure the kids are off to school wearing matching socks? And, don’t forget the big proposal on the kitchen table after working on it most of the night…

Goal-setting? Forget about it.

Attitude? Do you really want to know?

Happiness? Come on!

And what about managing your money and taking control of your income? How’s that possible when one lives paycheck to paycheck? As for our relationships—who would know? We hardly see each other or talk.

The signs of a life out of control may seem subtle: Your kids are growing up before your eyes, yet you hardly know them; you dread going to work at a job you have had for years; you want to say “no” before you even hear the question because saying “yes” means adding something to your plate.

Does any of this sound familiar? Is it normal to live a life out of control? Does it have to be?

The first step toward regaining control is examining your life and determining where you have problems. So, take the self-assessment quiz Then get the insights offered by some of the best-respected experts and thought leaders such as:

1. Jim Rohn (a legendary business philosopher, entrepreneur, speaker and author whose works include the best-sellers The Five Major Pieces to the Life Puzzle and 7 Strategies for Wealth and Happiness, as well as numerous audio programs.)
2. Brian Tracy (a motivational speaker and author. He has conducted seminars and workshops in 61 countries worldwide, and is the Chairman and CEO of Brian Tracy International.)
3. Dave Ramsey (a nationally syndicated radio talk show host and The Dave Ramsey Show on Fox Business Network. He is a best-selling author of many books, including The Total Money Makeover.)
4. Deepak Chopra (a leader in the field of mind-body medicine and the author of numerous books, including the best-selling Ageless Body, Timeless Mind: The Quantum Alternative to Growing Old. He serves as the director of education for the Chopra Center for Well-Being in California.)
5. Richard Eyre (a New York Times No. 1 best-selling author, former director of the White House Conference on Children and Parents, former candidate for governor, founder of three companies, a frequent guest on shows like Oprah, Today and The Early Show, and a ranked senior tennis player… all of which mean nothing, he says, when compared to his relationships with his wife, Linda, and their nine children.)
6. Robert Kiyosaki (author of Rich Dad Poor Dad, an investor, entrepreneur and educator.)

You can change your attitude and, if you are open to opportunities, you can chart your own course and drive your life forward. You can set goals—and you can reach them! Despite the economic chaos, you can take control of your income and start your own business. You can build wealth. You can reconnect with your family. And you can be happy.

Namaste!
